Old growth black walnut. Reclaimed, repurposed and reimagined as a modern river table.
The wood was reclaimed and restored from a family's personal walnut slab inventory. The large old-growth walnut tree had been felled around 40 years, slabbed, boarded, dried and securely stored in a wood shed for years. We restored this and other boards like it in order to turn local history into useful art. The character of the wood and its long history is shown in its variegated grain and sap wood.
The bright ocean blue river is made with EcoPoxy™ Liquid Plastic - the most eco-friendly epoxy resin on the market.
The legs are made from reclaimed steel, left raw in color but finished with a clear coat to protect. The occasional rust spot adds to the reclaimed character of the piece.
Finished with Odie's Oil, a food-safe, non-toxic old-world formula that is renown among woodworkers and artists. You can use Odie's Oil to maintain this piece on your own.
Both pieces are similar, but the wood and rivers vary in tone and/or size.
